Stars bow out of SAC Tournament 77-62

NAIA Tournament bracket to be unveiled Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stumbled in the Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament semifinals 77-62 to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
R.J. McGhee, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., topped OCU, ranked 23rd in the NAIA, with 16 points. No. 13th-ranked Wayland Baptist will face No. 14 Mid-America Christian at 4 p.m. Saturday for the tournament title.
Dema Sane, a senior from Mermoz, Senegal, contributed season bests with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots for Oklahoma City (18-8). Wayland Baptist halted the Stars' six-game winning streak.
The Pioneers scored the game's first 11 points. OCU climbed back into the game as Dorion Gigger sank a 3 that cut the Stars' deficit to 40-39 with 54 seconds left in the first.
OCU limited Wayland Baptist to 33.3 percent shooting from the field in the second half. Wayland pushed its lead into double figures at the 13:33 mark of the second period.
The Stars will look to gain an at-large bid into the NAIA Division I Tournament on March 18-24 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The NAIA Tournament qualifiers will be announced 3 p.m. CST Wednesday via naia.org with the bracket announced live at 8 p.m. Wednesday on NAIAnetwork.com.
