OCU clobbers Southwestern Christian 11-1, 8-0

Stars move to 6-0 in conference play

BETHANY, Okla. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University routed Southwestern Christian 11-1 and 8-0 on Monday at the SCU Softball Field.
OCU's Kyndra Holasek and Jocelin Diaz blasted home runs in each game of the day. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 27-1, 6-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, got the Stars on the board in the first inning by hitting a double to left field to drive in a run.
OCU piled on three runs on back-to-back home runs. Cheyenne Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., hammered a two-run jack that scored Holasek. Diaz left the yard over the left field fence to expend to lead to 5-0.
In the fifth, Terry hit a sacrifice fly to left that brought in Madison Ellis. The Stars added another run on a wild pitch.
OCU pilled on four runs in the sixth. Jamie Rateliff let the inning off with a solo home run to left field. Emily Krienke, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, drove in a run with a single to right center. Holasek brought the first game to a close with a two-run bomb to center field scoring Krienke.
Maci-Brooke Lambert, a senior from Healdton, Okla., threw a complete game, six innings, with one run while striking out three and improved to 7-0.
In the second game, Holasek led the game off with a home run to right field for her fourth homer of the season.
Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., struck a sacrifice fly to center, driving in Laci Joyner in the second.
OCU's McRae Cayton, drove in two runs with a single to right-center to spread the Stars lead to 4-0 in the fourth.
In the fifth, Kyle Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., scored Terry with a single up the middle.
The Stars added three runs in the sixth inning to bring the game to a close. Holasek scored Amanda Ingram with a grounder to second. Diaz smacked a two-run homer to left field, scoring Terry.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezula, threw five scoreless innings on one hit and struck out eight while going to 10-0 on the year.
OCU continues SAC action against St. Gregory's 5 p.m. Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
