Stars drop St. Gregory’s 7-6, 4-0

OCU stands at perfect 8-0 in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped No. 6 St. Gregory's 7-6 and 4-0 Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU's Kylee Rounsaville cracked three home runs on the night as the Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 29-1, 8-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City tacked on four runs in the first inning of the first game. Jocelin Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, knocked a double to right field scoring Kyndra Holasek. Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., through the left side bringing in Cheyanne Terry. Later McRae Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif., a junior from Irvine, Calif., singled to center field scoring two more.
The Stars trailed 6-4 before Rounsaville solo homered to left center to bring OCU within a run.
Rounsaville tied the score in the fifth inning with another home run to left. The Stars added the winning run in the same inning with Cayton's single up the middle that scored Joyner.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, picked up her 11th win of the season on 4.1 innings pitched on four hits with no runs.
In the nightcap, the Stars jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning with a double from Diaz scoring Terry from second. Later in the inning, Rounsaville laid a sacrifice bunt scoring Diaz from third.
Rounsaville blasted a two-run home run to left field, driving in Holasek in the third inning.
Abby Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., pitched seven scoreless innings on four hits and 10 strikeouts.
OCU's Rounsaville went 5-for-6 with six RBIs and three home runs on the night.
The Stars continue SAC play against Oklahoma Baptist in a doubleheader 1 p.m. Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
