OCU upends No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist 8-7

Stars improve to 27-7

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University outdid top-ranked Oklahoma Baptist 8-7 on Saturday at Bison Field at Ford Park.
The Stars, ranked 11th in NAIA, provided OBU its only two losses of the season and improved to 27-7, 10-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference baseball.
OCU jumped on the scoreboard right away when the second batter, Joe Lytle, a freshman from Yukon Okla., doubled down the left-field line and scored Reggie Wilson. Later in the inning, Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., clobbered his third home run to left field to bring in Lytle and gave the Stars a 3-0 lead.
OCU struck again in the third when Dylan Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., smacked a two-run homer to right field bringing in Adonis Askew.
Lytle doubled down the right-field line to score Josh Halbert in the fourth. Also in the inning, Delso singled to right-center, bringing in Lytle.
In the Stars' last at-bat, J.J. Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., singled to left center bring in Ryan Wright, which became the winning run.
Delso went 2-for-3 on the day, driving in three runs and scoring one himself.
Matt Young, a sophomore from Glendora, Calif., improved to 5-0 on the season on five innings pitched with seven hits, four runs and struck out five.
Miguel Gonzalez, a junior from Los Angeles, picked up his fourth save of the season on an inning of work allowing two hits, two runs and struck out one.
The Stars travel to Oklahoma Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
