Stars nab 10-5 win over Southwestern Christian

OCU move to 6-1 in conference play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University notched a 10-5 win over Southwestern Christian on Friday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
Reggie Wilson and Ryan Wright each posted three hits to lead OCU. The Stars, ranked 13th in NAIA baseball, improved to 23-6, 6-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Wright, a senior from Fruitland, Idaho, was 3-for-5 with an RBI triple, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Stars.
Adam Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, was 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run single, and Dylan Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 2-for-5 for Oklahoma City.
Carlos Chavez took the win to move to 4-0. Chavez, a junior right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., struck out four in seven innings. Chavez fanned Corey Cupp with the bases loaded in the third inning. Ricky Spain worked the eighth inning, while Jake Carson finished on the mound for the Stars.
OCU jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning advantage. Wilson scored on Jared Baker's sacrifice fly, then Wright brought home a run on an infield single. Adonis Askew reached home plate on a passed ball, and Clark smacked a two-RBI base hit to right field.
In the fifth, the Stars stretched their lead to 10-2. Wright hammered a triple into the right-center field gap to bring in J.J. Bissell from first base. Joe Haddox added an RBI single, then scored on a wild pitch.
Oklahoma City had its eighth game scoring 10 runs and 12th game reaching double digits in hits this year.
The Stars conclude their series against Southwestern Christian with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
