Stars cruise past John Brown 73-38

OCU plays 2:15 Thursday in SAC Tournament quarterfinals

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University concluded the regular season with a 73-38 rout of John Brown (Ark.) on Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Yvonte Neal, a senior from Spring Valley, Calif., supplied OCU with 18 points, seven rebounds, two steals and four 3-pointers. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 22-2, 17-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City holds the No. 1 seed entering the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament starting Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars play 2:15 p.m. Thursday against the winner of the John Brown-Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) matchup 3 p.m. Wednesday.
OCU captured its sixth consecutive SAC regular-season crown and 16th overall. The Stars will take aim at their 10th SAC Tournament title.
Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., picked up 16 points, five rebounds and two treys, and Marisha Wallace, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., pitched in 13 points, five rebounds and three steals for Oklahoma City.
Kara Partridge, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., posted 11 points and three steals, while Janay Borum, a senior from Upper Marlboro, Md., added five points, 11 assists and two steals for the Stars. Borum notched her seventh double-digit assist performance of the season.
John Brown managed 27.3 percent shooting from the field. OCU limited John Brown to 2-for-16 shooting from the floor in the second half at 12.5 percent.
OCU opened a 16-4 lead early as John Brown shot 2-for-9 from the floor and committed five turnovers. John Brown finished with 24 turnovers.
