Stars outlast Midland 14-8

OCU piles up 10 or more hits for 11th time this year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University got past Midland (Neb.) 14-8 on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
J.J. Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., belted his fourth home run of the year while going 3-for-4, driving in three runs and scoring three times for the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked 13th in NAIA baseball, improved to 22-6 on the year.
Bissell cranked a 1-0 pitch off the right-field foul pole for a two-run homer and a 9-2 OCU lead in the fourth inning. The Stars scored 10 or more runs for the seventh time this season.
Adam Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, went 2-for-4 with a run-scoring double and two runs scored, and Ryan Wright, a senior from Fruitland, Idaho, was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Stars. Joe Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-6 with two RBIs, while Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., put together a 2-for-5 day, scored a run and hit a run-scoring double in the second. Dylan Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 2-for-4.
OCU tacked on three runs in the eighth as Bissell had an RBI single and Clark hit his RBI double. Hunter Marcum, a junior from Purcell, Okla., gave the Stars a 14-7 lead on a sacrifice fly to left.
Lytle smacked a bases-loaded, two-run base hit to give OCU a 7-1 third-inning advantage.
The Stars scored two first-inning runs as Jared Baker hit a sacrifice fly to left, then Wright nailed an RBI single.
Skylar Janisse pitched five innings to get the victory. Janisse, a junior right-hander from LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, struck out three in moving to 2-2. He fanned Alex Parsons looking to leave the bases loaded for Midland to end the fourth.
Josh Halbert, a senior righty from Choctaw, Okla., struck out Midland's Miguel Ramallo with the bases full to finish the seventh. Ken Williams, a sophomore left-hander from Renton, Wash., finished on the mound for OCU, getting Jake Loftus to ground out to Halbert at third base with the bases loaded to clinch the win.
OCU resumes Sooner Athletic Conference play against Southwestern Christian at 6 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
