Stars take down Baker 9-1, 5-2

OCU moved to No.1 in NAIA rankings

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Baker (Kan.) 9-1 and 5-2 Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU, the newly minted No. 1 in the NAIA softball rankings, improved to a perfect 22-0 on the season. The Stars belted two home runs in the first game to end it after five innings.
Jamie Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., blasted her 10th of the season over the left-field wall to score Cheyanne Terry in the third inning.
McRae Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif., put the game out of reach with her solo home run in the fifth.
Abby Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, pulled her ninth win of the season on 2.1 innings pitched, allowed no runs on no hits and struck out four.
OCU used consistent scoring in the second game to capture the victory.
In the first, Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., doubled to right field to score Kyndra Holasek. Later in the inning Kylee Rounsaville hit a sacrifice fly to score Terry from third.
The Stars tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Madison Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., doubled down the left field line to score Laci Joyner. Carissa Turang, a senior from Whittier, Calif., then grounded to second base to score Ellis from third.
Maria Gomez pitched five innings, while allowing one run on five hits and struck out three.
OCU plays Houston-Victoria in a doubleheader 2 p.m. Thursday in Farmers Branch, Texas.
