Stars finish sweep of Indiana Tech in 20-15 shootout

Delso, Lytle and Wilson hit home runs for OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University racked up a pair of wins over Indiana Tech 3-1 and 20-15 on Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars reached 20 runs for the first time since a 22-6 win over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on April 27, 2012 at Jim Wade Stadium. OCU, ranked 16th in NAIA baseball, moved to 20-5 on the year with its eighth win in a row.
In the second game, OCU erased 8-0, 9-6 and 15-13 deficits. The Stars plated the final seven runs of the twin bill.
Dylan Delso belted a grand slam with one out in the fifth inning for the winning runs. After Connor Lynch drew an intentional walk to load the bases, Delso hammered the first pitch of his at-bat beyond the right-field wall to provide OCU an 18-15 lead. Joe Lytle pounded a two-run homer to right in the sixth for the final margin.
Delso nailed a two-run single through the middle of the infield to put OCU ahead 11-9 in a seven-run fourth for the Stars. Reggie Wilson's two-run double highlighted Oklahoma City's six-run second inning that cut its deficit to 8-6.
Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., drove in six runs, scored three and went 3-for-4 with his first homer as a Star. Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., knocked in five runs, scored a run and was 4-for-4 with his second homer in three days.
Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four runs scored and three RBIs, and Hunter Marcum, a junior from Purcell, Okla., was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a double and an RBI for OCU. J.J. Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in, while Lynch, Jared Baker and Adam Clark each scored two runs.
Miguel Gonzalez collected his fourth victory of the season. Gonzalez, a junior right-hander from Los Angeles, pitched the final 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
In the first game, Wilson cranked a lead-off homer to left. Adonis Askew, running for Lynch, scored on an Indiana Tech error to put OCU up 2-0 in the first.
Wilson smacked a run-scoring double off the left-field wall for a 3-0 fourth-inning OCU lead.
Romer Portes had an RBI double to break up the Stars' shutout in the sixth. With two runners on, Holden Lyons entered to pitch for OCU. Lynch picked Portes off the bases for one out, then Lyons retired Steve Remesnik on a fly ball to center and fanned Peyton Newsom to escape the jam.
Lyons, a sophomore righty from Edmond, Okla., set Indiana Tech down in order in the seventh to post his second save of the year. Dustin Cook, a junior right-hander from Huffman, Texas, improved to 4-0 by holding Tech to one hit and a walk in four innings with six strikeouts. OCU's Josh Halbert worked a 1-2-3 fifth.
Wilson sparked OCU with a 2-for-4 performance, a run scored and two RBIs, while Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. Marcum was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Oklahoma City is set to face Midland (Neb.) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
