Stars post twin bill sweep of St. Gregory's

OCU wins fifth consecutive

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University walloped St. Gregory's 5-2 and 5-0 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Joe Lytle hit his first collegiate home run in the first game, while in the nightcap, Grant Hamilton and Holden Lyons teamed to shut out St. Gregory's. Oklahoma City, ranked 16th in NAIA baseball, moved to 17-5, 5-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., crushed a 1-2 pitch over the right-field wall to put the Stars up 3-0 in the third inning of the first game. Josh Halbert drove in OCU's second run with a base hit to right in the second.
In the sixth, Wright nailed an RBI double to right, then Halbert had a sacrifice fly. OCU responded after Ryan Tucker's two-run single cut St. Gregory's deficit to 3-2 in the fourth.
Carlos Chavez limited St. Gregory's to three hits and two walks while striking out 10. Chavez, a junior right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., posted his first complete game with OCU while improving to 3-0 on the year.
Lytle went 3-for-3 with a double for his third three-hit outing of the season, while Wright, a senior from Fruitland, Idaho, was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a stolen base and a run driven in for OCU. Jared Baker, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-4, doubled and scored a run, and Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., was 2-for-4.
In the second game, Hamilton worked out of bases-loaded jams in the first and the third. Hamilton, a junior righty from Oklahoma City, fanned seven in 5.1 innings. Hamilton (1-1) notched his first win with OCU. Holden Lyons, a sophomore right-hander from Edmond, Okla., had two strikeouts in the final 1.2 innings.  
Baker went 2-for-4, doubled, scored twice with an RBI, while Lynch was 1-for-3 with an RBI. J.J. Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., also went 1-for-3 with a run knocked in, and Adonis Askew, a senior from Houston, and Adam Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, each went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Reggie Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, added a 1-for-2 performance with a run scored for the Stars.
Lytle had an RBI groundout in the first and a run-scoring base hit in the third. Also in the third, Baker knocked in a run with a base hit to left, while Bissell brought home a run on a single to right.
Wright nailed a run-scoring double off the Raising Cane's ad on the right-field wall in the sixth.
The Stars meet Indiana Tech at 4 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium as part of five home games OCU will have this week.
