OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 16 Oklahoma City University blanked 10th-ranked LSU-Shreveport 10-0 in a game that only took eight innings to complete Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars improved to 2-0 on the young baseball season.
Dustin Cook, a junior from Huffman, Texas, took the mound for the first time this season for OCU. Cook went six innings, gave up three hits, struck out seven and zero runs.
Jared Baker, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., clocked a solo home run in the second to give Oklahoma City a 1-0 early lead.
The Stars took a 6-0 run into the eighth inning where they did most of their damage. OCU scored four runs in the inning including the run to send everyone home early. Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta Ga., walked with the bases loaded to score Hunter Marcum and end the game.
OCU scored 10 runs on six hits with nine runs batted in. Baker went 2-for-3 on the night, scored three runs and knocked in three.
Oklahoma City returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader at 10 a.m. against LCU-Shreveport and 3 p.m. against Hastings (Neb).
