Stars stomp Mid-America Christian 84-66

OCU rolls to 16th consecutive victory

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trampled Mid-America Christian 84-66 on Thursday at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., provided the Stars 18 points and three 3-pointers. OCU, ranked second in NAIA Division I women's basketball, notched its 16th consecutive win in moving to 16-1, 11-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City's Marisha Wallace, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., produced 14 points and seven rebounds, and Janay Borum, a senior from Upper Marlsboro, Md., amassed 12 points, five rebounds, 14 assists and three steals while shooting 6-for-8 from the field.
The Stars' Ouleymatou Coulibaly, a senior from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, contributed 10 points while hitting 5 of her 7 shots from the floor.
OCU limited Mid-America Christian to 39.2 percent shooting from the field. The Stars pulled away in the second half behind a 60.6 percent shooting clip.
"I was so excited about our defense," OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. "We emphasized that these past few days. Finally I saw some of that. We have been working together."
Borum picked up her second double-double while ringing up a season-high 14 assists.
"What a great performance," Trammell said of Borum's dynamic play. "That's not coachable."
Wallace topped OCU in rebounding as the Stars rolled up a 46-27 advantage on the boards. The Stars outscored Mid-America 14-0 in second-chance points and 21-7 in points off turnovers.
"We knew that was going to be one of the keys to the game," Trammell said of OCU's rebounding.
OCU grew its lead to 61-44 on Albany Anderson's basket off Borum's setup with 11:09 to go. Anderson capped a 9-2 OCU burst.
The Stars rolled to an 82-59 advantage for its biggest of the contest. Borum scored with 2:03 remaining to finish a 13-3 OCU run.   
Oklahoma City faces Southwestern Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
