OCU puts down Southern Nazarene 12-8 on opening day

The Stars start the season at 1-0

OKLAHOMA CITY – 16th-ranked Oklahoma City University took care of NCAA Division II Southern Nazarene 12-8 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU scored 12 runs on 13 hits to capture the opening day victory in front of the home crowd. The Stars took a 10-7 lead in the sixth inning and kept the lead for good.
In the bottom of the second Adam Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, singled to left field to score Adonis Askew and J.J. Bissell. The next batter, Joe Lytle a freshman from Yukon, Okla., belted a double to right field to score Clark and Hunter Marcum.
Matt Young, a sophomore from Glendora, Calif., started on the bump for the Stars with four innings of work giving up four hits and three earned runs.
In the bottom of the sixth Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., clobbered a home run over the left field fence scoring Ryan Wright and Clark to give the Stars a 9-7 lead. A lead they would not give up.
Lynch went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and a home run. Lytle went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored in his OCU debut.
Skylar Janisse, a junior from LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, picked up the win for the Stars with two innings of work.
Oklahoma City returns to action 6 p.m. Friday against LSU-Shreveport at Jim Wade Stadium.
