Stars trounce USAO 93-57

OCU records 17th consecutive 20-win season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University crushed USAO 93-57 to notch its 17th consecutive 20-victory season Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Yvonte Neal, a senior from Spring Valley, Calif., piled up 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals for the Stars. OCU, ranked second in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 20-2, 15-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City has compiled a 523-65 record over the past 16-plus seasons during its run of 20-win seasons.
The Stars' Marisha Wallace, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., posted 18 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, and Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., chipped in 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Catherine Kruschke, a junior from Dublin, Calif., supplied OCU with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots, while Kara Partridge, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., contributed 12 points and three steals.
USAO went scoreless until the 14:41 mark of the first half when Mahogany Nelms hit free throws. USAO missed 11 shots until hitting its first field goal with 13:10 left in the first. OCU scored the game's first nine points.
After Jordan Cooper had a 3-pointer that cut the Stars' lead to 15-13, Wallace answered with a 3-point play. Oklahoma City grew its lead to 20 points with a 14-0 onslaught.
Neal scored on a trey and a breakaway basket, then Brown canned a 3 to give OCU a 38-18 advantage with 2:59 left in the first.
OCU held USAO to 23.5 percent shooting from the field in the first half and 35 percent overall. Oklahoma City reached 90 points for the sixth time this season.
The Stars meet Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Waxahachie, Texas.
