Stars rack up three wins in Mansfield Softball Bash

OCU hits four home runs against Panhandle State

MANSFIELD, Texas – Oklahoma City University rolled to three wins Saturday in the Mansfield North Texas Softball Bash at James McKnight Park East.
OCU routed Bethany (Kan.) 11-2 and Panhandle State 13-0 before adding a 6-2 victory over Clarke (Iowa). The Stars, ranked fifth in the NAIA, improved to 11-0.
Against Bethany, OCU equaled its season high with 15 hits. Jamie Rateliff led the way with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored, four RBIs and a home run.
Laci Joyner went 2-for-3, scored twice, drove in two runs and tripled, while Kylee Rounsaville was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Stars.
Maci-Brooke Lambert notched the victory to go to 3-0 in 2015. Lambert, a senior from Healdton, Okla., had three strikeouts while allowing three hits in five innings pitched.
The Stars reached double figures in runs for the fifth time this season in their win over Panhandle State. Rateliff homered for the third time this season, while Rounsaville also homered. McRae Cayton smacked a homer, and Madison Ellis nailed her first home run as a Star.
Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run driven in, and Cayton was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Kyndra Holasek was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Stars.
Abby Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., went to 5-0 on the year. Meador struck out eight and allowed two hits in five innings of work.
Against Clarke, Holasek was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Rateliff went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.
Maria Gomez improved to to 3-0. Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, fanned seven while permitting one earned run on two hits in seven innings.
Oklahoma City opens Sooner Athletic Conference play in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at USAO in Chickasha, Okla.
