OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pulled out an 88-75 victory over USAO on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
R.J. McGhee, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., sparked the Stars with 20 points, three assists and two steals. Oklahoma City, ranked 24th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, went to 15-7, 11-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Tharone Chilton, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., amassed 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals, and Gary Inglett, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., produced 19 points, 16 rebounds and two assists on 8-for-11 shooting from the field for OCU.
Ivan Jelencic, a senior from Sibenik, Croatia, added 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks for the Stars.
OCU improved to 8-6 this season when trailing at halftime. The Stars have faced a halftime deficit the past four games, including USAO's 35-31 edge at the break.
The Stars stormed into the lead with a 10-0 run. Inglett used three putback baskets plus a breakaway lay-in to help OCU forge a 57-49 lead with 11:36 remaining.
Cameron King's layup gave USAO a 62-61 edge with 9:34 showing, but Dema Sane answered with his own bucket. Sane rejected a shot that started an OCU fastbreak opportunity. Chilton recovered the ball and set up McGhee on a dunk in transition.
USAO tied the score 65-65. Chilton responded with a layup at the 8:16 mark to put the Stars on top for good. OCU connected on 58.3 percent of its second-half shots from the field.
