OCU notches three wins in Mansfield Softball Bash

Stars pile up 29 runs in moving to 8-0

MANSFIELD, Texas – Oklahoma City University improved to 8-0 with three victories in the Mansfield North Texas Softball Bash on Friday at James McKnight Park East.
The Stars, ranked fifth in the NAIA, knocked off Lubbock Christian (Texas) 5-4, Texas-Permian Basin 14-0 and Baker (Kan.) 10-5 on Friday.
Against Lubbock Christian, Sarah De La Cruz scored the winning run on McRae Cayton's grounder to the pitcher to give OCU a 5-1 fifth-inning advantage. Madison Ellis and Kyndra Holasek added RBI base hits.
In the seventh, Jessica Loiacano doubled to cut OCU's lead to 5-4 and put the tying run on third base. Abby Meador came on the pitch for the Stars. After Sammie Murrietta drew a walk to fill the bases, Meador struck out Molly Davison to clinch OCU's win.
Maci-Brooke Lambert, a senior from Healdton, Okla., fanned four in 6.2 innings to get her second win of the year. Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., picked up her first career save.
Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Jamie Rateliff was 2-for-3 with a double for OCU.
Against Texas-Permian Basin, Holasek and Kylee Rounsaville each hit a pair of home runs to lead OCU's offensive outburst. Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., tied her career high with five RBIs and hit two homers in a game for the second time as a Star. She last hit a pair of homers against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on March 20, 2014.
Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., drove in a career-high six runs while posting her second career multi-home run game of her career. Rounsaville previously homered twice against Bethany (Kan.) on March 4, 2012. Rounsaville and Cheyanne Terry each had three hits for the Stars.
Meador notched her fourth win of the season. She struck out seven in five shutout innings.
Against Baker, Rateliff hammered two homers in a game for the first time as a Star. Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Laci Joyner, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., pounded a two-run homer. Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., went 3-for-5 with an RBI double.
Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, improved to 2-0 on the season. She had seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
OCU plays Bethany (Kan.) at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Stars also face Panhandle State at noon and Clarke (Iowa) at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mansfield North Texas Softball Bash.
