Stars' Webster triumphs for fourth national title

OCU has nine all-Americans for third-place showing

Emily Webster won 10-0 over Marina Doi of King to get her fourth national crown.

ST. LOUIS – Oklahoma City University's Emily Webster captured her fourth 101-pound Women's College Wrestling Association title Saturday at the Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
Webster, a senior from Sedalia, Mo., finished her college career 118-0 as the first OCU wrestler to end unbeaten with four national crowns. Webster, the top-ranked 101-pounder, became the third wrestler to win four WCWA individual championships.
Webster reeled in WCWA wrestler of the year after her 10-0 technical-fall victory over Marina Doi of King (Tenn.). Webster completed her senior season with 31 victories and five falls. She tore through the tournament with four technical-fall wins for her 12th career tournament title.
"It's been a ride," Webster said. "I just took it one match at a time, and this is what ended up happening."
Second-ranked Oklahoma City finished third place with 195 points as King took its second team title in a row. Nine Stars took all-American honors as Cody Pfau became the 109-pound national champion and Kayla Aggio finished as 143-pound runner-up.
OCU's all-Americans included Brieana Delgado, who finished third at 130 pounds, Shelby Morrison, who was fourth at 116; Heather O'Connor, the fifth-place finisher at 191; Heiley Garcia, who was sixth at 143; Carla Ponce, seventh at 130; and Yvonne Galindo, eighth at 155.
Pfau, a sophomore from Parachute, Colo., pinned Abby Lloyd of Simon Fraser (British Columbia) in 2:50 to grab the 109-pound national title. Pfau won three times by fall and twice by technical fall in the WCWA Championships. Pfau went 34-1 this season and became a two-time all-American.
Aggio, a junior from Rohnert Park, Calif., dropped the 143-pound final by fall to King's Amanda Hendey. Aggio needed a 4-3 victory over Cheyenne Youngblood of Missouri Baptist to advance to the title match. Aggio (37-5) became a three-time all-American and two-time WCWA finalist.
Delgado, a senior from Fountain Inn, S.C.., edged Rosemary Flores of Campbellsville (Ky.) 2-1 in the 130-pound third-place bout after Flores had pinned Delgado in the quarterfinals Friday. Delgado went 25-5 as a senior to finish her OCU career 92-40 with four all-American nods.
Morrison, a junior from Amarillo, Texas, fell 7-6 to Amy Fearnside of Jamestown (N.D.) in the 116-pound third-place contest. Morrison pinned Simon Fraser's Laura Anderson in the consolation semifinals. Morrison went 35-9 and repeated as an all-American.
O'Connor, a senior from Napa, Calif., took fifth at 191 with a 3-1 win over Kierra Boyce of Wayland Baptist (Texas). O'Connor posted a 31-6 record this season to complete her career with a 93-38 record and four all-American accolades. Oklahoma City has 11 four-time all-Americans in the women's wrestling program history.
Esthefania Jimenez and Demi Strub closed their Stars careers as well. Jimenez of Lubbock, Texas, had a 36-34 career record while recording three technical falls in the WCWA Championships. Strub, a senior from Guilford, Ind., boasted of a 77-37 record with three all-American honors as a Star.
