OCU knocks off Grand View 7-5

Haddox provides winning RBI double in fifth inning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University notched a 7-5 win over Grand View (Iowa) on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Joe Haddox, a junior from Moore, Okla., drove in the winning run on a double to left field with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Stars, ranked 16th in NAIA baseball, moved to 6-2.
Oklahoma City scored twice in the fifth to erase a 5-4 deficit. Connor Lynch led off the bottom of the inning by smacking a hit off the pitcher's glove. With two out, J.J. Bissell singled to advance pinch runner Adonis Askew to third base. Askew scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Spenser Gill took Bissell's place on the basepaths. Gill reached home plate on Haddox's double.
The Stars tacked on a run when Lynch bounced a double over the third baseman to score Joe Lytle from second in the sixth.
Jared Baker gave OCU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first by knocking in run with a base hit to left. Baker added an RBI double over the center fielder in the third. Bissell brought home two more runs in the third with a single to center.
Holden Lyons threw 3.1 perfect innings to record the victory. Lyons, a sophomore right-hander from Edmond, Okla., came in with two out in the fourth and struck out Zach Little with the bases full. Lyons fanned five Grand View batters.
Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, while Baker, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., was 2-for-3, scored a run, drove in two runs and swatted a double for the Stars.
Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in, and Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
OCU's game vs. Grand View originally set for Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium has been canceled. The Stars square off with MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
