OCU racks up three wins in Cowtown Classic

Stars notch 30 hits Friday

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University opened the season with three wins in the Cowtown Classic on Friday at Gateway Park.
The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA softball, knocked off Saint Mary (Kan.) 4-2 in eight innings, then Tabor (Kan.) 6-2 and McPherson (Kan.) 13-0.
OCU picked up the season-opening win over Saint Mary as Amanda Ingram scored in the top of the eighth inning on a throwing error. Jocelin Diaz tacked on a run-scoring base hit for the Stars.
Abby Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., worked the final 2.1 innings and struck out three to earn the win in her collegiate debut. Cheyanne Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., went 2-for-3 with a double, while Jamie Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., also went 2-for-3 for Oklahoma City.
Against Tabor, Meador earned her second victory of the day by striking out 16 while allowing an earned run on two hits in a complete-game effort. Kylee Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., hammered a solo home run in the second inning to give the Stars their first run of the contest.
McRae Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif., pounded a two-run homer as part of OCU's three-run seventh inning. Rateliff was 2-for-3, while Kyndra Holasek went 2-for-4.
Against McPherson, OCU piled up 14 hits.  Rateliff went 4-for-4 with three doubles, while Terry was 2-for-4. Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-4.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, fanned seven in a complete-game outing for the Stars.
Oklahoma City faces Houston-Victoria at 10 a.m., then Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at noon Saturday in the tournament.
