LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma City University dropped an 83-39 exhibition contest against Lubbock Christian Thursday at the Rip Griffin Center.
Catherine Kruschke, a senior from Dublin, Calif., paced the Stars with 16 points and chipped in four rebounds, two assists and a steal. OCU, ranked 13th in NAIA Division I women's basketball remains at 5-3, 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Lubbock Christian, ranked 14th in NCAA Division II, improved to 8-0 on the season.
Allison Frey, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 3 for 9 from the 3-point territory and added a free throw for 10 points.
Oklahoma City shot just 31.8 percent from the field, while the Lady Chaps were successful in 44.3 percent of their shots from the field. LCU converted 29 points off 20 Stars' turnovers, while OCU only scored five points off of LCU's eight turnovers.
The Stars' Amanda Ingram, a junior from Oklahoma City, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while notching six points, two assists and two steals.
OCU's Kruschke scored first to start the game but the Lady Chaps outscored the Stars 21-4 in the first quarter. Ingram sank a 3-pointer in the final minute of the second quarter to go into the half trailing the Lady Chaps 41-14.
The Stars were outscored 42-25 the rest of the way.
The Lady Chaps played 14 different players, while the Stars were limited to just six competitors. LCU compiled 47 bench points to OCU's one point off the bench.
Bailey Haist led Lubbock Christian with 15 points, while Nicole Hampton scored 14 points and added six rebounds. Bobbi Chitsey notched a team-best seven rebounds for the Lady Chaps.
OCU plays Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at 1 p.m. on Jan. 2 in San Antonio.
