LANGSTON, Okla. – Oklahoma City University took an 85-48 setback to Langston on Saturday at C. Felton Gayles Fieldhouse in a showdown of top 20-ranked teams in NAIA Division I women's basketball.
Catherine Kruschke, a senior from Dublin, Calif., scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for seventh-ranked OCU (0-1).
No. 18 Langston (1-0) denied Bo Overton the win in his first game coaching the Stars.
Allison Frey, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., notched 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds while draining four 3-pointers for the Stars. Samantha Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., chipped in seven points, five rebounds and four assists, while Amanda Ingram, a junior from Oklahoma City, provided OCU with five points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.
Frey's trey put the Stars up 8-4 with 7:16, but Langston had an 8-0 run. Kruschke had a lay-in to tie the game 21-21 late in the first quarter.
Early in the second period, Langston had a 7-0 run. T'Keya Mason's putback drove the Langston lead into double digits at 32-22 at the 5:37 mark.
The Stars held Langston to 38 percent shooting from the field.
OCU plays next at 25th-ranked LSU-Shreveport at 4 p.m. Nov. 14 in the LSU-Shreveport Classic at Shreveport, La.
