OKLAHOMA CITY – Brian Harvey reached milestone victory No. 400 in men's college soccer with a 3-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday at Stars Field.
In his 30 years at OCU, Harvey has amassed a record of 400-187-38. OCU advanced to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals to meet USAO at 7 p.m. Monday in Chickasha, Okla.
Harvey's overall record at OCU adds up to 742-287-61 including his women's record.
The Stars struck first in the 22nd minute as Volney Richardson, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, scored his third goal of the season off an assist by Logan Stewart, a sophomore from Denton, Texas. The assist was the sixth of the year for Stewart.
In the 31st minute, junior Juan Ocampo, of Boca Raton, Fla., assisted Alexander Taiar, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to put the Stars up 2-0.
The Lions got on the board in the 40th minute when Danny Castro assisted Miguel Torres to bring the game within one score at 2-1.
Ocampo extended the Stars lead in the 47th minute with an unassisted goal. The score was Ocampo's third goal of the year.
The Stars goalkeeper Vladimir Kalajdzic, a sophomore from Novi Sad, Serbia, notched five saves. Cesar Espana registered four saves and dropped to 8-9-1 as the Lions goalkeeper in 53 minutes and 18 seconds of play. Edgar Chavez played the final 36 minutes and 42 seconds of play and recorded two saves in the net.
The Stars, seeded fourth, will play Monday in the semifinals against top-seeded University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, ranked sixth in the NAIA, in Chickasha, Okla. OCU lost 2-1 to USAO in the regular-season finale on Oct. 31.
