Stars falls 66-62 to Ozarks in John Brown Classic

OCU's three-game winning streak snapped.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University dropped its second game of the John Brown Classic 66-62 against College of the Ozarks (Mo.) at the Bill George Arena.
Daniela Wallen, a junior from Caracas, Venezuela, led the Stars in points (20) and assists (5), while adding six rebounds. The Stars, No. 7 in NAIA Division I women's college basketball rankings, dropped to 3-3 on the season, and the Bobcats, ranked eighth in NAIA Division II women's college basketball, improved to 8-1.
OCU trailed 21-4 at the end of the first quarter but the Stars cut the Bobcats lead to 10 by halftime at 32-22.
Allison Frey, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., hit a 3-pointer at the 6:56 mark of the third quarter to bring the Stars within three points at 34-31. Amanda Ingram, a forward from Oklahoma City, sank a 3-pointer on the next possession to tie the game at 34-34.
The Bobcats' Madisen Brethower and Kelsie Cleeton made back-to-back field goals to end the third quarter and stretch the Bobcat lead to five points.
With 14 seconds left, Frey drained a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game but the Bobcats extended the lead back to four points on consecutive free throws by Hannah Wisdom.
Frey shot 4-for-7 from the 3-point territory and finished with 18 points. Ingram tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Catherine Kruschke, a senior from Dublin, Calif., notched seven points and 10 rebounds for the Stars.
Three players scored in the double-digits for the Bobcats. Shelby Roberts led the Ozarks in points (13) and had a share of the team-high in rebounds (6). Brandy Uchtman notched 12 points, while Lakin Simmerman scored 11 points and added four rebounds.
The Bobcats held the rebound advantage 38-31 and owned the second chance opportunities at 17-5. OCU committed 21 turnovers, while the Bobcats only had 14 turnovers.
The Stars shot 46.8 percent from the field and kept the Bobcats to just 37.9 perecent.
OCU returns to action Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. against Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Okla.
