OCU trounces Bacone

Stars sweep new conference member

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University cruised past Bacone 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena in the first contest between the two schools as fellow Sooner Athletic Conference members in any sport.
Fia Faa'agi and Manon Soraru led the Stars with seven kills each. OCU, ranked 23rd in NAIA volleyball, moved to 11-3, 6-0 in the SAC.
Faa'agi, a freshman from Murrieta, Calif., picked up four digs. Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., accumulated 18 assists and five digs, and Stefani Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., added five kills and six digs for OCU.
Dani Chase, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., produced 10 assists, eight digs and two aces, while Holly Randall, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., socked five kills for the Stars.
Tori Leisure's back-to-back kills put OCU up 19-12 in the first set. OCU tallied the final five points of the second set as Faa'agi nailed a kill and Watson racked up an ace.
The Stars closed the match on a 9-1 run. Nell ignited the surge with a kill and an ace, and Mandy Martincich and Soraru pounded kills.
Oklahoma City meets West Texas A&M at 2 p.m., then Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. Saturday in Canyon, Texas.
