OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University got handed a 32-9 defeat Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) on Wednesday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars, ranked 13th in NAIA wrestling, got a pin from Aaron Guery and a decision victory from Zach Skates. OCU fell to 6-4 in duals. Ouachita Baptist is ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II coaches rankings.
"We didn't wrestle to our potential today," OCU coach Archie Randall said. "We still have a few matches left and we will wrestle better in those."
Guery, a 149-pound freshman from Lancaster, Texas, got the Stars on the scoreboard with a pin at 1:53.
"We just got Aaron at 149 pounds," Randall said. "He works really hard. One of our assistant coaches taught him the move he pinned the guy on. He is coming along, and we are really proud of him."
Zach Skates won on a 3-2 decision in the next match to decrease the Ouachita Baptist lead to 14-9. Skates, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., sits in seventh in the latest 157-pound rankings.
The Stars wrestle next against Central Oklahoma, ranked eighth in NCAA Division II, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Edmond, Okla.
