Stars pick up win at Southwestern Christian

OCU moves to 4-1 in conference matches

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University posted the 25-15, 25-22, 25-23 victory over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at the Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., produced 10 kills and five digs for the Stars. Oklahoma City improved to 12-7, 4-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Heather Watson, a junior from Edmond, Okla., generated 19 assists, while Hannah Mitcham, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, added 11 assists for OCU.
Rachel Gabel, a junior from Richardson, Texas, contributed seven kills, four digs and a block, and Meghan Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, picked up six kills, three digs and two aces for the Stars.
Kelley Shiels served up an ace to give OCU a 13-2 lead en route to the first-set win. In the second set, the Stars erased a 6-2 deficit using a 6-0 run. Macy pounded two kills, while Irwin notched an ace as OCU took a 9-7 lead.
In the last set, OCU overcame an 18-14 hole. Gabel nailed consecutive kills to provide the Stars a 22-21 edge. Gabel's kill clinched the match for Oklahoma City.
The Stars face SAC foe Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 7 p.m. Friday in Plainview, Texas.
