Stars fall twice in MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational

OCU goes to 2-1 in five-set matches this season

OLATHE, Kan. – Oklahoma City University dropped both of its matches in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational on Friday at the Bell Family Arena.
The Stars took a 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 loss to Graceland (Iowa), then fell short to Baker (Kan.) 25-14, 18-25, 25-27, 25-22, 15-12. OCU moved to 10-6 in volleyball.
Against Graceland, Kristen Macy put together 11 kills and 11 digs, while Hannah Mitcham provided Oklahoma City with 31 assists.
Tori Leisure nailed nine kills, and Meghan Irwin added eight kills and two blocks for the Stars.
In the second set, OCU overcame 20-17 and 23-21 deficits to win the set. Macy and Holly Randall provided with key kills to help the Stars put away the set.
Baker scored the first four points of the fifth set in OCU's second match of the night. Aspen Healy had a kill to cut Baker's lead to 5-4.
Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, posted 20 kills, eight digs and three blocks, and Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., amassed 18 kills, 10 digs, four aces and three blocks for OCU.  
Mitcham, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, racked up 48 assists, six digs and two aces, while Rachel Gabel, a junior from Richardson, Texas, generated 11 digs, five aces and four assists for the Stars.
Oklahoma City faces Johnson & Wales (Colo.) at 3 p.m., then Benedictine (Kan.) at 5 p.m. Saturday in Atchison, Kan.
