OCU drops match to OBU

Macy leads Stars with 11 kills

OCU had seven blocks against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University took a 25-17, 25-14, 15-25, 25-17 loss to top 25-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday at the Noble Complex.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., totaled 11 kills, eight digs and four aces for Oklahoma City. The Stars moved to 9-4, 2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Oklahoma Baptist, ranked 15th in the NAIA, posted its 50th consecutive league victory.
Hannah Mitcham, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, accumulated 21 assists and five digs, and Rachel Gabel, a junior from Richardson, Texas, picked up 12 digs for the Stars.
Tori Leisure, a junior from Haslet, Texas, provided OCU with six kills, five digs, three blocks and two aces, while Holly Randall, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., topped the Stars with four blocks.
OBU scored the match's first seven points, but the Stars answered with a 6-0 run to cut the Lady Bison lead to 9-8. Leisure served up both her aces during that span.
In the third set, OCU pulled away from a 4-4 tie with a 6-0 tear. Jami-Rae Renwick socked two kills, while Macy had a kill and an ace during the Stars' run. Macy pounded a kill, and Lindsey Grace added an ace as OCU went up 17-7 and eventually 18-9. Leisure teamed with Meghan Irwin on a block, then Irwin smacked a kill to put away the set for the Stars.
In the final set, Oklahoma Baptist built a 6-1 lead en route to the victory.
OCU remains in conference play taking on Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
