Stars smack John Brown in four sets

OCU notches second league victory of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a 25-21, 27-25, 19-25, 25-17 win over John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., spearheaded the Stars with 14 kills, 15 digs, two aces and three blocks. Oklahoma City went to 9-3, 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Jami-Rae Renwick, a junior from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, Canada, hammered 10 kills, while Taylor Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., produced 36 assists, six digs and five blocks for OCU.
Tori Leisure, a junior from Haslet, Texas, contributed seven kills, nine digs and five blocks, and Meghan Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, chipped in seven kills and five blocks for the Stars.
OCU's Kelley Shiels posted 14 digs, while Holly Randall had two kills and seven blocks. Kenzie McMullen compiled five aces as the Stars accumulated 10 aces.
"This was a great bounceback win for us after letting one slip on Thursday night," OCU coach Kyle Steele said. "Our serving and blocking really set the tone for the match, and we had great productivity from our outside hitters as well. It was a solid conference win for us at home."
OCU rallied to win the second set despite John Brown having set point twice. Audrey Dearien's kill gave John Brown set point at 24-23. The Stars scored the final three points of the set as Irwin nailed a kill, then Leisure served up an ace.
McMullen, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., came up with two aces in a row to give OCU a 21-11 fourth-set lead en route to the victory.
The Stars face 18th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Shawnee, Okla.
