Box Score WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University dispatched Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 25-23, 25-17, 25-17 on Monday at the Shaeffer Center.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., rang up 15 kills and eight digs for the Stars. Oklahoma City won in its Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball opener of the season to move to 8-2, 1-0.
Meghan Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, chipped in 13 kills, while Kelley Shiels, a senior from Edmond, Okla., supplied the Stars with 16 digs.
Taylor Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., accumulated 28 assists and 11 digs, and Lindsey Grace, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., contributed nine digs and two aces for OCU.
In the first set, Holly Randall and Irwin teamed on a block to give the Stars a 7-2 lead. SAGU rallied to take an 18-17 edge, but OCU answered with a Macy kill to build a 20-18 lead. Tied at 23-23, Irwin and Macy hammered kills to give the Stars the set.
The Stars take on Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
