Stars pounce on Ottawa for 8-0 win

Ottawa takes first part of doubleheader 4-3 in eight innings

Jamie Rateliff nailed a three-run triple to key an eight-run sixth inning in the second game to secure the win Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled past Ottawa (Kan.) 8-0 after dropping the first game of the doubleheader 4-3 in eight innings Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jamie Rateliff's base-clearing triple with the bases full provided the highlight as the Stars erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth of the second game. Oklahoma City, ranked 18th in NAIA softball, moved to 43-11.
Amanda Ingram led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to left-center field, then Kyndra Holasek followed with a bunt hit. Ingram scored when Cheyanne Terry lofted a pop fly over Ottawa shortstop Amber Harris' head that fell off Harris' glove for an error. The Stars broke a scoreless tie.
Rateliff smacked a hit that skipped through the infield to the wall for a three-run triple and a 4-0 OCU advantage. Emily Krienke drove in a run on a base hit to right, then Kayley Humann doubled to left.
Shelbi Legg got hit by pitch to load the bases, then Logan Sundbye knocked in two runs with a single to right. The Stars scored their eighth run when Legg reached home plate on a passed ball.
Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., shut out Ottawa on two hits in six innings with two strikeouts. Rateliff retired the final eight batters she faced in order in her first complete-game outing of the year.
Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3, doubled, scored a run and stole a base, while Rateliff was 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs for OCU. Humann, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 1-for-2 and scored a run, and Ingram, a redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City, was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Krienke, a junior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Sundbye, a freshman from Bethany, Okla., went 1-for-3 with two runs driven in.
In the first game, Jocelin Diaz provided the Stars a 2-0 lead with a double to left-center with two out in the third. Ingram scored OCU's first run on Holasek's grounder.
Darin Lewis' RBI double in the fourth and Gabby Markham's two-run double in the fifth put Ottawa in front 3-2.
With two out in the seventh, Legg kept OCU alive with a base hit. Legg scored when Holasek pounded a double to left-center.
Ottawa's Jenna Stigge reached home in the top of the eighth when Lewis lined into a double play. Lewis lined out to Holasek at shortstop, then Holasek threw out an Ottawa runner at first. Maxime van Dalen threw home, but Stigge scored.
The game ended when Kylee Rounsaville popped up to Lewis at second base. Lewis completed a double play by throwing out Terry at home.
Holasek went 2-for-3 with two steals and two RBIs, while Legg, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Diaz, a junior from Maracay, Venezuela, was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Danielle Fox suffered the loss, going to 14-3 on the year. Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., fanned 13 in eight innings of work.
OCU completes the regular season in a 5 p.m. twin bill vs. USAO on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
