Stars rally past Oklahoma Wesleyan

Van Dalen's hit provides OCU winning run in 9-6 second-game win

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Maxime van Dalen's RBI single in the 10th inning brought Oklahoma City University the doubleheader sweep 13-2, 9-6 on Tuesday at Lady Eagle Field.
Van Dalen, a freshman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, poked a base hit to left field to score Jamie Rateliff with two out in the 10th of the second game. The Stars, ranked 18th in NAIA softball, improved to 40-10.
Kayley Humann belted a two-run home run past the center-field fence to score van Dalen. OCU overcame a five-run deficit as Oklahoma Wesleyan built a 5-0 advantage after two innings and a 6-1 lead through three.
Kyndra Holasek nailed a solo homer to give the Stars their first run of the nightcap in the top of the third. Humann pounded a three-run blast beyond the left center-field fence to cut OCU's deficit to 6-4 in the fourth.
Danielle Fox reached home plate on a wild pitch in the fifth, then Jocelin Diaz tied the game with a solo shot over the left center-field fence in the sixth.
Maria Gomez turned in a 149-pitch, 10-inning complete-game effort to earn the victory for OCU. Gomez, a junior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, struck out 11 and allowed an earned run on one walk and six hits. Gomez improved to 13-3.
Humann, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in five runs with her second and third homers of the season, while van Dalen went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, and Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
In the first game, Kylee Rounsaville hammered a full-count pitch over the center-field fence for a grand slam in the third.
Cheyanne Terry cranked her first homer as a Star to touch off a nine-run fourth – a two-run shot to right. OCU increased its lead to 8-2 later in the inning as Diaz and Rounsaville scored on an error. Rateliff socked a two-run blast, and Emily Krienke scored on a passed ball. Terry completed the scoring with a two-run single to center.
Fox notched the victory, moving to 13-2 in 2014. Fox fanned six in three innings while permitting two unearned runs on a walk and two hits. Maci-Brooke Lambert finished with two shutout innings.
Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a steal, and Terry, a junior from Little Axe, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
Oklahoma City returns home to face Sooner Athletic Conference member Mid-America Christian in a 5 p.m. twin bill Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
