OCU falls to Oklahoma Baptist 5-0, 4-3

Stars now 21-7 in SAC play

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday at Lady Bison Park.
The Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA softball, were shut out 5-0 by the 23rd-ranked Lady Bison in the first game and fell 4-3 despite a late rally in the nightcap. The Stars moved to 38-10 overall and 21-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with the sweep.
Oklahoma Baptist pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the first inning and took a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Bison stretched their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Raeven Clark blasted a three-run home run over the center-field fence.
Oklahoma Baptist retired the Stars' side in order in the top of the seventh and took the 5-0 win.
Danielle Fox allowed five runs on four hits with one strikeout and was saddled with the loss. Maci-Brooke Lambert tossed three scoreless innings in relief.
Kyndra Holasek and Jamie Rateliff each went 2-for-3 to lead OCU at the plate.
Oklahoma Baptist plated a run in the bottom of the first and added three more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead in game No. 2.
Amanda Ingram singled to center and drove in Shelbi Legg from third base to put OCU on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. Holasek followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Emily Krienke and made the score 4-2. Cheyanne Terry capped the inning with a single up the middle that scored Maxime van Dalen and cut the Lady Bison lead to 4-3.
The Stars had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh, but Oklahoma Baptist kept OCU from scoring and took the 4-3 victory.
Rateliff allowed four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and was handed the loss. Maria Gomez provided a scoreless inning of relief.
Ingram, Holasek and Terry all drove in a run to pace the OCU offense.
The Stars will return to action in a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Oklahoma Wesleyan on April 22 in Bartlesville, Okla.
