OCU rolls to 11-3, 9-1 sweep of Oklahoma Wesleyan

Diaz, Ratelif nail home runs Thursday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University bulldozed Oklahoma Wesleyan 11-3, 9-1 on Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jocelin Diaz, a junior from Maracay, Venezuela, led OCU with four hits and a home run on the day. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, improved to 12-1.
In the first game, Cheyanne Terry nailed an RBI single to put the Stars ahead 9-0 with one out in the third inning. OCU erupted for six runs in the second.
Amanda Ingram legged out an infield bunt hit that Kayley Humann scored on to make the score 3-0 OCU with one out in the second, then Kyndra Holasek singled to right field to score Ingram.
Maxime van Dalen added an RBI single to right. On the play, Terry reached third base, then scored when the relay throw got past Oklahoma Wesleyan catcher Katelyn Cook. Jamie Rateliff gave OCU an 8-0 advantage by hammered a two-run homer to left.
The Stars finished the game when van Dalen singled to center to bring home Ingram. Van Dalen took second on the throw, rounded third then scored when Cook committed a throwing error while trying to get van Dalen on the bases.
Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in two runs, while van Dalen, a freshman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ingram, a redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City, went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI, and Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a steal. Diaz went 2-for-3 with a double.
Maria Gomez improved to 5-0 on the year after striking out three in four innings. Gomez, a junior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, allowed one earned run on seven hits. Rateliff worked the fifth and fanned two.
In the second game, Diaz pounded a three-run homer over the center-field wall to give OCU a 9-1 sixth-inning advantage and end the twin bill.
Danielle Fox provided the Stars a 3-0 first-inning lead on a double off the left-field wall to score Kylee Rounsaville. Rounsaville brought in OCU's first run of the game on a fielder's choice, then Rateliff's bunt hit knocked in another Stars run.
OCU went up 5-1 in the second when as Rateliff reached on a walk, Oklahoma Wesleyan's Selena Lopez had a wild pitch that Holasek scored from third on. Van Dalen got to third on the wild pitch, then scored as Rateliff got caught in a rundown between first and second.
Shelbi Legg drew a bases-loaded walk for the Stars' sixth run of the game.
Diaz was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a steal and three RBIs, while Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Holasek was 2-for-3 with a steal and two runs scored, and Rateliff went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
OCU faces Graceland (Iowa) in a noon doubleheader Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
