OCU suffers 109-81 setback to Wayland Baptist

Bonhomme provides Stars his season high with 21 points

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Wayland Baptist (Texas) dealt Oklahoma City University a 109-81 loss Saturday at the Hutcherson Center.
Terence Bonhomme, a freshman from Martinville, La., poured in a season-high 21 points to lead OCU. The Stars dropped to 13-9, 9-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Terry Johnson, a senior from Chicago, accumulated 12 points and three steals while shooting 6-for-7 on free throws for OCU. R.J. McGhee, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., added 11 points, and Terrence Walker, a senior from Jonesboro, Ark., chipped in 10 points.
Wayland Baptist became the first team to score 100 points against OCU under Dionne Phelps. Wayland Baptist sank 52 percent of its shots from the field as the Stars allowed a team to shoot 50 percent or better for the fifth time this season.
OCU scored 80 points for the fourth game in a row. The Stars had won their previous three.
Kaleb Smith had a dunk to give OCU an 8-6 lead with 16:39 left in the first half. It would prove to be the Stars' only lead of the game.
Markus Monroe's 3-pointer pushed Wayland Baptist's lead into double digits for the first time in the game. The Pioneers led 21-11 with 12:20 to go in the first period.
Wayland Baptist increased its lead to 33 points in the second half.
OCU meets St. Gregory's at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
