Delgado's fall sparks 43-5 OCU win over Cumberlands

Second-ranked Stars cruise past fifth-ranked Cumberlands

OKLAHOMA CITY – Brieana Delgado's seven-second fall highlighted Oklahoma City University's 43-5 dismantling of Cumberlands (Ky.) on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Delgado, a senior from Fountain Inn, S.C., unleashed a five-point move on Ashley Talaro-Potter to gain the fastest fall in OCU history. The Stars, ranked second in the Women's College Wrestling Association, improved to 17-2 with the victory over fifth-ranked Cumberlands.
Delgado, ranked third among WCWA 130-pounders, beat her sister Brittany Delgado's eight-second pin over Evanie Paulett of Lindenwood (Mo.) on Nov. 13, 2009.
"She'll go into the book," Oklahoma City coach Archie Randall said of Brieana Delgado. "She had a really nice suplex and pretty well decked the girl. It was pretty. She back-arched her to her back and pinned her immediately. She is pretty powerful."
Emily Webster improved to 110-0 against college competition in her OCU career with a 10-0 technical-fall victory over Sarah Allen. Webster, a senior from Sedalia, Mo., is the top-ranked three-time defending national champion at 101 pounds, while Allen is ranked fifth at their weight.
"She looked good again like she always does," Randall said of Webster. "We're pretty confident she's going to finish out the season and be a four-timer."
The Stars notched six falls against Cumberlands. OCU's Yvonne Galindo won by fall over Cathleen Auxier in 1:32 in the 155-pound bout. The Stars led 38-0 before Cumberlands got on the scoreboard with Aviance Watters' pin of Sherese Thomas. Watters is ranked eighth at 155, while Thomas is ranked third at 170.
Shelby Morrison picked up the first fall of the night for OCU in 2:35 over Alexandria Campbell. At 136, Rachel Young finished off Esmeralda Garcia in 58 seconds. Kayla Aggio followed with a 36-second fall over Jasmine Mendez at 143.
OCU's Heather O'Connor defeated Clarc Walker in 1:38 at 191 pounds. O'Connor, a senior from Napa, Calif., holds the No. 2 spot in the 191-pound rankings, while Walker is seventh among 170-pounders.
Rachel Archer, ranked third at 123 pounds, took a 10-0 technical-fall win from sixth-ranked Sherri Berube for the Stars.
"We pretty much put Cumberlands away," Randall said. "We had one boo-boo when we tripped and fell. That happens in wrestling. The girls did really well."
Oklahoma City meets eighth-ranked Missouri Baptist at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Louis.
