Stars complete season sweep of Central Oklahoma

OCU goes to 3-2 on the season

Box Score EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma City University escaped Central Oklahoma 109-97 Saturday at Hamilton Field House.
The Stars had four players score double digits, three scoring more than 20. Tharone Chilton, a senior from Tulsa Okla., led all scorers with 24 points. Oklahoma City went to 3-2 in men's basketball.
The Stars started the game 6-0 before Central Oklahoma opened up a 17-2 run with 15:11 to play in the first half. R.J. McGhee sank a 3-pointer to stall the run.
Both teams shot north of 55 percent from the field in the first half. Oklahoma City shot 55.2 percent, while Central shot 60.7 percent on field-goals. Both teams also shot 46 percent from the 3-point line.
Central Oklahoma took a 10 point lead, 60-50, into the locker room.
Mahlon Jones scored for Central on their first possession of the second half to open their largest lead of the game.
The Stars battled back and tied the game on two free throws from Ivan Jelencic with 5:56 to go. Oklahoma City rode the come back with a run of their own, going on an 11-1 scoring advantage after the game was tied.
Dorion Gigger, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, made a layup with 1:59 left to play to open a 12-point lead, the largest advantage for the Stars.
Oklahoma City held Central Oklahoma to 33.3 percent field-goal shooting in the second half, including 12.5 percent from deep. The Stars shot 60.6 percent from the field in the second half, with 50.0 percent from the 3-point line.
McGhee, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., scored 22 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished three assists for Oklahoma City. Gary Ingett, a senior from Admore, Okla., completed his third double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Stars start Sooner Athletic Conference play against Texas Wesleyan (Texas) 8 p.m. Dec. 4 in Fort Worth, Texas.
