Stars snatch win over St. Gregory's

Irwin leads OCU with 15 kills

Meghan Irwin recorded her second double-double of the year with 15 kills and 19 digs Tuesday.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University topped St. Gregory's 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-19 on Tuesday at W.P. Wood Field House.
Meghan Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, totaled 15 kills, 19 digs and two blocks for Oklahoma City. The Stars moved to 13-8, 5-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., compiled 13 kills and 21 digs, while Hannah Mitcham, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, amassed 38 assists, 10 digs and five kills for OCU.
Tori Leisure, a junior from Haslet, Texas, provided the Stars with nine kills and 18 digs, and Tori Thomas, a junior from Norman, Okla., posted 17 digs in her season debut.
OCU overcame a 10-4 second-set deficit. The Stars reeled off a 6-0 run as Mitcham chipped in two kills, including the kill that put her team ahead 12-11. Macy hammered the kill that clinched the set.
"After a really poor start, we collected ourselves and got back to business," OCU coach Kyle Steele said. "We had some key contributors have off nights tonight, but other players stepped up in sets three and four, and we looked more like OCU."
Leisure nailed a kill that put the Stars up 9-2 in the third set. Aspen Healy socked a kill to give OCU a 19-9 advantage en route to taking the set.
In the fourth and final set, Macy smacked a kill that capped an 8-0 OCU run to create a 21-11 OCU lead. Healy's kill put away the victory.
"Wins on the road in conference are good no matter who is on the other side of the net," Steele said. "We'll take it."
The Stars face Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.
