Stars take win at John Brown

Irwin hammers career-high 21 kills

Meghan Irwin's 1,221 kills stand second place on OCU's career list.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University picked up a 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 victory over John Brown (Ark.) on Wednesday at Bill George Arena.
Meghan Irwin spearheaded the Stars with 21 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Oklahoma City improved to 15-9, 7-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, increased her career kill total to 1,221. Irwin became the second Star to reach 1,200 kills Monday, joining Xiaoting Ma. Ma became OCU's all-time career kill leader from 2008-10 with 1,431. Irwin posted her single-contest career high in kills and her second career 20-kill performance.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., notched 12 kills, nine digs and five aces, while Taylor Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., returned to the lineup to produce 18 assists and 10 digs for Oklahoma City.
Aspen Healy, a senior from Oklahoma City, provided OCU with six kills and three blocks, and Kelley Shiels scooped nine digs. The Stars' Chazmin Franklin, a junior from Bay City, Texas, contributed five kills and four blocks, the latter of which tied her single-match career high.
In the second set, Macy recorded three of her career-high five aces to help the Stars build a 7-2 advantage. Irwin kills erased a 23-22 John Brown edge and carried OCU to taking the set.
In the fourth and deciding set, the Stars pulled away from John Brown as Irwin and Macy chipped in kills. OCU scored the final three points of the match.
The Stars host Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Abe Lemons Arena. There will be a barbeque cookout outside the gym before the match.
