OCU derails Southwestern Assemblies of God

Irwin, Macy top Stars with 14 kills

Kelley Shiels picked up 11 digs Monday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 25-19, 25-16, 26-24 on Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Meghan Irwin and Kristen Macy supplied OCU with 14 kills each. The Stars improved to 14-9, 6-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, added nine digs and two blocks, while Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., had 10 digs and two aces for Oklahoma City.
Hannah Mitcham, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, amassed 36 assists, eight digs and three kills, and Kelley Shiels, a senior from Edmond, Okla., produced 11 digs and two aces for the Stars.
OCU's Holly Randall, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., contributed six kills and three blocks, and Aspen Healy, a senior from Oklahoma City, provided four kills.
In the first set, Macy served up back-to-back aces and hammered a kill to give OCU four consecutive points and a 16-10 lead. In the second set, Irwin knocked down kills that bookended a 6-0 run to put the Stars ahead 10-3.
In the third, the Stars erased a 13-9 hole with a 7-0 splurge. Irwin notched a kill and a block, while Shiels capped the run with an ace. Southwestern Assemblies of God stormed back to tie the set 24-24, but Irwin and Macy put away the match with kills.
The Stars face John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
