OCU suffers setback to Texas Wesleyan

Stars move to 9-7, 2-2 in league play

Box Score FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University took a loss to Texas Wesleyan 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19 on Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center in the first volleyball matchup between the two teams as conference foes.
Meghan Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, posted 11 kills and a block for the Stars. OCU went to 9-7, 2-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU's Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., totaled nine kills, 13 digs and three aces, and Torrie Flynn, a senior from Edmond, Okla., contributed eight kills and three blocks. Hannah Mitcham, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, provided the Stars 20 assists, three digs and two aces, while Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, racked up 21 digs.
Tori Thomas, a redshirt freshman from Norman, Okla., established a new season high with 15 digs, and Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, chipped in four kills and 13 digs for OCU.
The Stars used five consecutive points highlighted by Macy's service ace to take a 15-14 first-set edge. Texas Wesleyan responded with a 5-0 run to regain the lead.
Irwin pounded a kill to cut Texas Wesleyan's second-set lead to 24-23. Texas Wesleyan got the block to clinch the set.
Irwin's kill capped a 5-0 spree that put OCU ahead 17-11 in the third set. Flynn hammered a kill that brought the Stars set point at 24-18, and Irwin nailed the kill that give OCU the set.
Thomas had a kill that put the Stars up 11-8 in the third set. Alex Hendee's kill gave Texas Wesleyan the lead for good at 14-13.
The Stars return to Abe Lemons Arena to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 7 p.m. Monday.
