Stars fall twice Saturday

OCU suffers setbacks to 23rd-ranked Wayland Baptist, East Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took setbacks from Wayland Baptist (Texas) 25-14, 26-24, 25-17 and East Central 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 26-28, 15-12 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars went to 8-6, 1-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. No. 23 Wayland Baptist dropped OCU to 0-2 against nationally-ranked foes this year.
Against Wayland Baptist, Kristen Macy boosted OCU with 14 kills, six digs, two aces and two blocks. Hannah Mitcham recorded 26 assists and six digs, and Meghan Irwin added six kills and four blocks.
Danielle Robison and Tori Thomas picked up nine digs and an ace each for the Stars.
Macy tied the second set twice with kills at 22-22 and 23-all. Irwin hammered a kill to knot the set at 24-24.
Against East Central, Rachel Gabel posted 14 kills and two blocks, while Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., chipped in her third double-double of the year with 12 kills, 14 digs, two aces and two blocks.
Torrie Flynn contributed 11 kills, and Heather Watson accumulated 30 assists and eight digs for OCU. Robison, a senior from Dallas, netted 18 digs and two aces, and Maggie Vickers scooped 13 digs. Thomas, a redshirt freshman from Norman, Okla., had 11 digs and two aces.
Flynn provided the Stars with a 10-9 fifth-set edge on a kill. Anna Gentry's ace cut East Central's fifth-set lead to 13-12.
The Stars meet St. Gregory's at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Shawnee, Okla.
