Stars rout Southwestern Christian

Macy posts 14 kills, Watson hands out career-high 36 assists

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University recorded a 25-10, 25-22, 25-10 win over Southwestern Christian for its first Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball victory of the season Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., led OCU with 14 kills. The Stars improved to 6-4, 1-0 in the SAC in its first encounter with Southwestern Christian, one of the new additions to the league.
Heather Watson, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., eclipsed her career high with 36 assists for the Stars. Watson had dished out 25 against Southeastern (Fla.) on Aug. 30. Meghan Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, provided OCU with 10 kills and four blocks, three solo.
Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, chipped in seven kills and seven digs, while Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, added 14 digs and three aces for the Stars.
Macy's ace capped a 10-3 run that increased OCU's first-set lead to 22-8.
In the second set, OCU erased a 17-13 deficit. Gabel hammered a kill to put the Stars ahead 23-22, then Gabel nailed another kill to complete the OCU rally and give her team the set.
Macy collected back-to-back kills to stake OCU to a 6-1 third-set advantage. Gabel notched aces in two of the match's final three points.
The Stars take on Austin (Texas) at 4 p.m., then Texas College at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Sherman, Texas.
