OCU falls to Southwestern

Stars drop to 5-4 on season

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State posted a 25-21, 25-17, 30-28 victory over Oklahoma City University on Tuesday at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
Rachel Gabel and Kristen Macy led the Stars with eight kills each. OCU went to 5-4.
Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., paced OCU with 10 digs and three aces. Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, picked up eight digs. Torrie Flynn, a senior from Edmond, Okla., posted seven kills for the Stars.
OCU's Heather Watson, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., racked up 18 assists and two blocks, while Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, picked up eight digs. Meghan Irwin chipped in four kills and three blocks.
Flynn pounded down a kill to provide OCU a 19-18 first-set edge to cap a 6-0 Stars run. Southwestern answered with the next four points en route to taking the set.
Tori Leisure nailed a kill to put the Stars ahead 24-23 in the third set. Gabel and Irwin teamed on a block to give OCU a 27-26 advantage. Gabel's kill tied the set 28-28, but Saasha Jacobsen posted the ace to ice the match for Southwestern.
The Stars begin Sooner Athletic Conference play in their home opener against Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Abe Lemons Arena.
