Lubbock Christian ousts OCU 6-1

Stars finish year 51-15

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Oklahoma City University's season drew to a close with a 6-1 loss to Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Tuesday in the NAIA Championships at the South Commons Softball Complex.
Courtney McGee held the Stars to two hits to move to 20-0 on the year. Fourth-ranked OCU dropped to 51-15, while second-ranked Lubbock Christian (60-9) moved on to a 3 p.m. CDT game Wednesday.
Shelbi Legg spanked a base hit past the shortstop for the Stars' first hit of the day with one out in the third inning. Tori Joyner reached on a fielder's choice, then scored on Kyndra Holasek's single to shallow right field.
McGee struck out nine while walking four. McGee struck out the side in the second and fourth innings. Danielle Fox (2-2) was saddled with the loss, although Fox retired seven in a row from the second to the fourth.
Mallory Koschany scored Lubbock Christian's first run in the first on a wild pitch. Lubbock Christian scored again in the first as Diana De La Paz drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the second, Megan Sullivan had an RBI double, then Latainna Eltsosie added a run-scoring single for a 4-0 Lubbock Christian lead.
OCU finished the season leading the NAIA in hits, doubles, runs scored and RBIs.
Five Stars concluded their college careers Tuesday – Joyner, Magean De La Torre, LeeAnn Lopez, Angela Lovelady and Drew Wright. OCU went 191-63 with three Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championships, the 2013 NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket title, four trips to the NAIA Championships and two appearances in the NAIA championship game the last four years with their help.
De La Torre, a third baseman-outfielder from Plano, Texas, put together a .342 average, 211 hits, 45 doubles, two triples, 23 home runs, 131 RBIs and 22 stolen bases in her three-year Stars career. De La Torre was three-time all-SAC.
Joyner, a shortstop from Mustang, Okla., hit .404 with 268 hits, 203 runs scored, 32 doubles, four triples, 77 RBIs and 130 steals in three years with OCU. Joyner became a three-time first-team all-SAC performer, two-time SAC gold glover, three-time NFCA all-Southwest Region, an honorable-mention NAIA all-American and a second-team NFCA all-American.
Lopez, a first baseman from Grand Prairie, Texas, accumulated a .361 average, 278 hits, 178 runs scored, 54 doubles, a triple, 57 homers and 219 RBIs in four years playing for OCU. Lopez took all-SAC four times, all-Southwest Region twice and consensus first-team all-American as a junior.
Lovelady, a second baseman-catcher from El Cajon, Calif., posted a .298 average, 29 doubles, two triples, 13 homers and 88 RBIs in two years at OCU. Lovelady grabbed all-league acclaim twice and became an SAC gold glover.
Wright, a catcher-third baseman from Moore, Okla., finished her one season with OCU with a .382 average, 16 doubles, 12 homers and 65 RBIs. She was first-team all-SAC.
