Stars sweep Rogers State 10-2, 8-6

OCU completed the regular season with a record of 44-10

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University topped Rogers State 10-2, 8-6 Tuesday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Stars, ranked No.5 in NAIA softball, outhit the 22nd-ranked Hillcats 29-15 and completed the four-game sweep to move to 44-10 overall and 20-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU took an early lead thanks to a four-run top of the second inning. Angela Lovelady tripled down the right-field line to plate a pair of runs and later scored to make the score 3-0. Tori Joyner followed with an RBI single to give OCU a 4-0 advantage.
Drew Wright and Magean De La Torre crossed the plate when Jamie Rateliff singled to left in the top of third and made the score 6-0.
Rogers State added a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to cut the OCU lead to 7-2.
RBI singles from Wright, De La Torre and Kyndra Holasek in the top of the seventh gave the Stars a 10-2 lead.
Rateliff retired the Rogers State side in the bottom of the seventh to give the Stars the 10-2 victory. The sophomore from Mustang, Okla., surrendered two runs on seven hits and picked up the win.
Lovelady and Rateliff tallied two RBIs apiece to lead the Stars at the dish.
Wright staked OCU to a 2-0 lead in the second game with a two-RBI triple down the right-field line.
In the top of the second, Joyner singled and plated a run and Emily Krienke scored to stretch the Stars' advantage to 4-0.
LeeAnn Lopez singled and plated Shelbi Legg in the top of the fourth, but the Hillcats responded with a four-run bottom of the inning to make the score 5-4.
Wright homered in the fifth and Joyner drove in a run and scored in the sixth to give the Stars an 8-4 lead.
Rogers State added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, but failed to cut further into the lead and fell 8-6.
Kreinke and Danielle Fox combined to allow three earned runs on eight hits.
Wright went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to action in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday at Hall of Fame Stadium.
