Stars club Rogers State 8-0, 6-4

OCU slugged six home runs and improved to 42-10 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Rogers State 8-0, 6-4 in a doubleheader Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 6 in NAIA softball, slugged six home runs, including two apiece from seniors LeeAnn Lopez and Angela Lovelady, to sweep the 20th-ranked Hillcats and improve to 42-10 overall and 18-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Jamie Rateliff hit the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning over the center-field fence to put OCU on the scoreboard. Lovelady followed with a solo homer of her own to give the Stars a 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fourth, Rateliff singled down the left-field line to plate Magean De La Torre and make the score 3-0.
A two-run blast from Lopez in the fifth and another solo shot from Lovelady in the sixth put OCU on top 6-0.
Later in the bottom of the sixth, Shelbi Legg smacked an RBI triple and was driven in by Kyndra Holasek to give the Stars the 8-0 victory.
Rateliff allowed four hits with two strikeouts in six scoreless innings and picked up the win to move to 18-2 on the season.
Lopez, Lovelady and Rateliff each drove in two runs to lead the Stars at the dish.
Lopez singled up the middle in the bottom of the first inning of game No. 2 to give OCU a 1-0 lead.
Holasek homered in the third and singled up the middle in the fourth to plate a pair of runs and stretch the Stars' lead to 3-0.
Later in the fourth, Lopez hit her second two-run homer of the day and De La Torre followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.
The Hillcats rallied to score four runs in the top of the seventh, but Rateliff closed the door to earn her third save of the season and give OCU the 6-4 victory.
Emily Krienke allowed two hits in four scoreless innings to earn the win and improve to 2-1 on the season. Rachel Penner and Rateliff each made relief appearances.
Lopez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to pace the Stars at the plate.
The Stars will return to action in a doubleheader against Rogers State on April 28 at the Diamond Sports Complex in Claremore, Okla.
