Roberts of OCU takes outstanding wrestler in University Nationals

Roberts makes U.S. World University team, Webster goes to Pan American Championships

Brittney Roberts won the 158-pound championship in the USA Wrestling Women's University Nationals.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Brittney Roberts of Oklahoma City University garnered outstanding wrestler while capturing the 158-pound championship in the USA Wrestling Women's University Nationals on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Roberts will compete with the 2013 U.S. World University Team in the World University Games on July 10-16 in Kazan, Russia after earning her spot with the title. Emily Webster of the Stars picked up a berth in the Pan American Championships on April 5-7 in Panama City in a wrestle-off Friday.
Roberts defeated her longtime rival in college and on the senior level, Julia Salata of the NYAC and King (Tenn.) in the championship finals 7-0, 2-0. Salata beat Roberts in the finals of the 2012 University Nationals.
Roberts, a senior from Santa Fe, Texas, completed her OCU career this season. She finished runner-up at 170 pounds in the 2013 Women's College Wrestling Championships. As a Star, Roberts went 118-36 with 42 falls and three third-place national finishes.
“B-Rob had a great tournament,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “She destroyed Salata in the finals.”
Webster edged Erin Golston of the New York Athletic Club 3-3, 0-4, 3-2 at 105 pounds. With the score tied 2-2 in the third period, and the criteria in favor of Golston, Webster scored a takedown as time ran out. One point was awarded, and Golston asked for a video review in which the takedown was confirmed.
Golston and Webster have wrestled many times in the past, with Golston winning the bouts, including in the finals of the FILA Junior World Team Trials. Golston is a two-time FILA Junior World bronze medalist.
Webster, a sophomore from Sedalia, Mo., also finished third in the University Nationals by defeating Shannon Constantine of King 4-2, 7-0 in the 105-pound third-place match. Webster has captured two 101-pound WCWA titles.
Brieana Delgado and Stephanie Geltmacher of the Stars finished runner-up in the University Nationals at their weights. Other OCU placers were Brianna Rahall, fifth at 105; Kristi Garr, fourth at 112; Kayla Aggio, fifth at 138; Sherese Thomas, fifth at 170 and Heather O'Connor, sixth at 170.
Delgado, a sophomore from Fountain Inn, S.C., fell to Sarah Hildebrandt of King in the 121-pound final 0-1, 5-0, 2-0.
Geltmacher, a junior from Kahaluui, Hawaii, lost 6-0, 7-0 to Veronica Carlson of the NYAC in the 147-pound title bout. Tamyra Menseh of Wayland Baptist (Texas) knocked off Geltmacher 1-1, 1-0 in a true second match.
OCU finished runner-up in the WCWA Championships in January after winning the previous four national championships. The Stars were national runners-up in 2008.
