OCU crushes Newman 12-1, Missouri Southern 10-4

Stars pound 20 hits on day

Emily Krienke belted the first home run of her OCU career in the second inning against Missouri Southern.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University thumped Newman (Kan.) 12-1 and Missouri Southern 10-4 on Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars slugged four home runs on the day as LeeAnn Lopez homered twice. OCU, ranked fourth in NAIA softball, improved to 8-4.
Emily Krienke and Drew Wright also homered for the Stars. OCU reached double digits in runs for the second and third times this season. Elizabeth Oberst picked up wins in both games, improving to 8-2.
Against Newman, OCU opened up a 10-0 first-inning advantage. Tori Joyner scored the Stars' first run on a passed ball, then Lopez put OCU on top 2-0 with a double to left-center field. Magean De La Torre pounded a two-run double to left, then scored on a fielder's choice.
Jamie Rateliff scored as she and Shelbi Legg executed a double steal. Joyner nailed an RBI triple, while Kyndra Holasek had an RBI single. Lopez hammered the first pitch of her at-bat over the center-field wall for a two-run homer.
In the third, Holasek drove in two runs with a base hit to right.
Holasek, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Lopez, a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in three runs. Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-2, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base.
Oberst, a senior left-hander from Benecia, Calif., struck out five and allowed an unearned run on two hits in five innings for the victory.
Against Missouri Southern, OCU's first two hits were Wright's two-run shot over the left-field wall in the first and Krienke's two-run blast to right in the second. Also in the second, Lopez ended an eight-pitch at-bat by launching a full-count pitch over the left-field wall for a grand slam.
OCU extended its lead to 10-1 on Angela Lovelady's two-run double to left later in the second.
Oberst came on in relief of Rachel Penner in the fourth and finished the game in the circle. Oberst (8-2) racked up her second win of the day, fanning seven and allowing two hits in four shutout innings.
OCU meets Illinois-Springfield at noon, then Missouri Southern at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
